Welcoming the Evening In is an original pastel painting on Colourfix 300gsm archival paper.
I met this lovely Australian Silver Gull on a late summer evening on the back water at Bunbury. She seemed to be enjoying the last warmth of the day as the sun slowly sunk towards the horizon. I loved the play of the warm sunlight and the cool shadows on this bird and that’s what inspired me to create this painting.
Silver Gulls are very common in coastal regions all around Australia, but for such common birds they all have very distinct personalities and characteristics, and that’s what I love trying to capture in this series of seagull paintings.
