The Silver Gull Gang
The Silver Gull Gang is an original pastel painting on Colourfix 300gsm archival paper.
I was swimming at Blue Bay in Mandurah on a hot summer morning when I noticed this gang who had commandeered the point. I grabbed my camera, slowly swam over and lay in the shallows to get some shots. One rogue wave nearly claimed me and my camera but it was worth it! The strong light on these gulls was just beautiful and that’s what I’ve tried to capture in this painting.
Silver Gulls are very common in coastal regions all around Australia, but for such common birds they all have very distinct personalities and characteristics, and that’s what I love trying to capture in this series of seagull paintings.
