Corella Fellas
Corella Fellas is an original mixed media painting on Colourfix 300gsm archival paper. The majority is painted in transparent watercolours with just a touch of pastel.
I came across a large group of these adorable corellas in Bunbury a few months ago. The sun was going down and the last rays were side-lighting the birds as they fed on the ground. I was tickled by the jaunty ways they were standing and the personality in their inquisitive little faces.
I’ve amplified the pinks and yellows reflecting off their feathers and placed the birds in this whimsical composition to highlight their cheeky and inquisitive little personalities.
Corellas are highly intelligent and curious, and they love to explore their surroundings. They are also very social birds, often seen in flocks of up to 100 individuals.
One of the most endearing traits of Corellas is their love of play. They have impressive acrobatic abilities and can often be seen hanging upside down from branches or playing with gumnuts. They also enjoy playing games with each other, such as chasing and wrestling!
