Autumn Jewels II
Autumn Jewels II is an original pastel painting on Colourfix 300gsm archival paper.
This beautiful Carnabys Black Cockatoo had alighted in a Tallowwood tree which was in it’s full autumn regalia. The deep reds, pinks and golds of the leaves offset the cockatoo so beautifully that I just had to paint it!
Carnaby's Black Cockatoos, also known as White-tailed Black Cockatoos, are a beautiful and iconic species of bird native to Western Australia. They have a very striking appearance, with glossy black feathers and white tail feathers, and they are also one of the largest species of cockatoo.
Here in Mandurah we are lucky to see large mobs at this time of year as they feed on the banksias and other native food sources currently in flower.
